Home Office Walls

Home Office Walls

Project Scenario

Susan is a busy professional with a busy home office. She wants "Eggshell" to repaint offices and hallways at Big Deal, Inc.   How does she prepare the space for painting and what product suits this best?

Preparation

  • Patch holes as required and spot prime bare substrates
  • If the current paint on the wall is a shinier / glossier finish, scuff sand with 120 grit sandpaper to create "tooth" for the paint and/or primer to "bite into".

Primer Coat
(for bare gypsum wall board, to cover spackle filler, or where colour changing dramatically)

Best: 05250 Premium Classic Hi-hide Latex Drywall Sealer

Top Coat

Best: 7069X, Ecologic Ultra Low VOC 100% Acrylic Latex, "Eggshell" finish
Better: 4305X, Super2 100% Acrylic Latex, "Eggshell" finish
Good:  0324X, Premium Classic Acrylic Latex, "Eggshell" finish

Caution! Things to consider

  • The higher the gloss or sheen, the more durable, but the more the substrate imperfections will appear.
  • The lower the gloss or sheen, the better the wall will appear, but scrub resistance will not be as strong.
  • Eggshell is a generic term - use draw downs to verify expectations of gloss or use.
  • Horizon Interior paints will dry odour-free for those employees who are sensitive to paint smell.
